Power Bank in Airplanes: Things to Know Before You Board!

Power banks have become a must-have accessory for many travelers.

With the increasing dependence on electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops, it has become critical for many to have a reliable power source on the go.

However, when it comes to carrying power banks on planes, there are a few things passengers need to know.

Airlines almost always have specific regulations regarding the use and transport of power banks (and lithium batteries in general!) and it is important for travelers to be aware of these guidelines to ensure a smooth trip without surprises.

CAPACITY IN mAh (MILLI-AMPERE) AND POWER IN Wh (WATT-HOUR) PERMITTED FOR TRANSPORTATION INSIDE AN AIRCRAFT

When it comes to taking power banks on planes, a crucial factor to consider is the capacity in mAh and the power in Wh allowed on flights.

Different airlines may have different restrictions on the maximum capacity of power banks allowed on board.

  • Generally, most airlines allow power banks with a capacity of up to 100 Wh or 27,000 mAh, provided they are carried in carry-on baggage instead of checked baggage.
  • Most airlines follow the International Civil Aviation Organization guidelines. (ICAO), which stipulate that power banks with a power up to 100 Wh are allowed in carry-on luggage, while power banks with a power between 100 Wh and 160 Wh require prior approval of the airline.
  • Under no circumstances are powerbanks allowed in checked baggage.

It is important for travelers to check the specific regulations of the airline they are flying with to ensure compliance and avoid any inconvenience during security checks.

CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR CARRYING POWER BANK

When it comes to carrying power banks inside an airplane, there are some rules about certifications that passengers need to be aware of.

  • Airlines usually require power banks to have certain safety certifications, such as the certified UN38.3 for lithium batteries.

  • The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the United States requires power banks to meet certain safety certifications such as UL 2056 or IEC 62133 . This certification ensures that the power bank has undergone rigorous testing to meet safety standards.
  • In addition, some airlines (all European airlines) may also require power banks to be labeled with certification marks, such as CE or FCC, to indicate that they comply with specific regulations.

VEGER: CERTIFIED POWER BANK

Powerbanks are now found everywhere, online, on amazon, at various mediaworlds, and even at Chinese stores.

When choosing, if you know that you will have to transport your powerbank by plane, it is therefore important to make sure of the goodness of the seller, the manufacturer of the power bank, and of course the certifications of the product.

Personally, I would like to point out the Veger Power banks (which I personally use!) that are specially designed to meet all the certifications and safety features required for carrying inside carry-on luggage during a flight.

These power banks have undergone rigorous testing and obtained certifications such as UN38.3, UL 2056 and IEC 62133, ensuring their compliance with international safety standards. In addition, Veger power banks are labeled with certification marks such as CE and FCC, further indicating their adherence to specific regulations.

The price is great, the quality of the product as well, plus it has all the certifications you need-perfect for taking off without having thoughts of violating any air regulations! 🙂

CONCLUSION

In conclusion, the powerbank is an electronic accessory that more and more modern travelers rely on.

Understanding the regulations set by airlines regarding capacity, certification, and labeling of power banks is critical to ensuring smooth and trouble-free travel.
