Paris: What to Pack for your Trip?

Think Fashion!

Located in the hinterland of Western Europe, Paris enjoys a mild climate year-round, with temperatures getting cold but not freezing in winter (min. 3-4 C°, rarely peaks under 0°)  and enjoyably warm but not scorching-hot in summer (average max. 25-28 C° – although rare peaks reached up to 40°C in latest years).

Humidity is generally high in the winter months (Nov – Dec – Jan – where you can expect rainy days every second day) while gets more comfortable in summer (where you can expect rain every 3rd day). The rapidly changing weather from one day to the other, as well as between day-night requires clever packing to be sure to feel at ease at all times.

Furthermore, Parisienne people love dressing smart-fancy, so if you want to mingle in the crowd, this is the right destination for bringing more classy, smart-casual clothes. Remember that the Parisienne style is normally pretty simple (not too many colors!), but neat and elegant.

Following this, I leave you a packing list with all the things you should think of bringing on your upcoming trip to Paris. I hope this will help you to don’t over-pack what you won’t need (as I did!) and don’t forget what you actually might truly need (again like I did! xD).

Enjoy 🙂

As a rule of Thumb: Think simple fashion, remember that you can find a rainy day any time of the year (Paris is gorgeous also with the rain, you just need to be prepared 😉 )

All Year

  • Comfy Walking Shoes
  • Second pair of shoes
  • Rain Poncho (if you don’t want to carry an umbrella with you)
  • Socks
  • Hoodie/Zippy (nights might be chilly also in summer)
  • Sweater (Bonus: waterproof sweater)
  • Trousers/Jeans
  • Flip Flop (only for inside)
  • Socks
  • Underwear

Spring & Summer

    • T-shirts/Shirts/Dresses
    • Shorts/Skirts
    • Sandals

Autumn & Winter

    • Heavy, Warm Sweater
    • Warm Windbreaker Jacket / Waterproof Winter Coat
    • Scarf
    • Gloves
    • Warm hat

All Year

  • Universal Electricity Adaptor
  • Small bag for daily excursions (alternatively waist bag – comfy but then forget to mingle with the locals, you’ll be plainly screaming you’re a tourist)
  • Re-usable Water Bottle
  • Chargers
  • Photocamera / Phone / GoPro / Laptop / Tripod / Selfie Stick
  • Toiletries
  • Plastic Bag for dirty cloths
  • Umbrella (it better be a sturdy one)
  • Lip balm (optional)
  • Maps.Me App + Download Public Transport Maps in Advance
  • Wine Bottle Opener (you’ll thank me later! 😉 )

Spring & Summer

  • Suncream Protection
  • Sunglasses

  • Passport + Copy
  • Copy of Health Insurance (if you’re not European)
  • Copy of Travel Insurance
  • Wallet (try not to bring your whole wallet to the pubs, as it’s so common losing wallets drunk in Ireland! 😉 )
  • Prescriptions for Medicaments (if you need some)
  • Student Card (for discounts)

In Conclusion

When you’ll be choosing which clothes to pack for your trip to Paris, just keep in mind: few not-bright colours, simple and elegant style. Also, remember you’ll be likely walking a lot, so you’ll be very happy with bringing a lightweight daily backpack and a re-usable water bottle.

Be prepared to the changing weather (an extra layer is always a good idea) and, last but not least, try to have always a bottle opener with you;  you never know when a wild French wine bottle might appear to attack you: better be prepared to deal with it ;D
