Beyond the Beach: Turks and Caicos in Summer

poster about venice

When people think of the Caribbean in July, the usual image is a cocktail in hand, toes in powdery sand, and the gentle crash of turquoise waves!

In the past we’ve been talking plenty about this lovely area of the world, about our journey through Cuba, fun facts about El Salvador and, what to visit and where to relax in Mexico...

Today though, we will take a journey to a still way too underrated destination that normally does not pop-up first in your head (but perhaps should!) when planning the next trip: Turks and Caicos! 🙂

This is a tiny destination in the Carribbean that goes beyond the paradise beach loungers and sunset selfies: these islands are a dream playground for anglers, divers, and adventure-seekers—especially during the peak season of June, July and August! 🙂

Let’s dive right in, and discover what Turks and Caicos have to offer! 🙂

1. Before we start:

Where Exactly Are the Turks and Caicos Islands?

where is turks and caicos on the map

Tucked between the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic, the Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory made up of 40 low-lying coral islands, only about 8 of which are inhabited.

They sit in the Atlantic Ocean—not technically the Caribbean Sea—but the vibe, the culture, and the water?

Pure Caribbean magic.

Originally home to the Lucayan people, the islands were first sighted by Europeans in the 1500s and later became a haven for pirates, salt traders, and shipwreck survivors.

Over time, they came under British control, where they remain today.

You’ll still feel that British influence—think left-side driving and official Queen’s portraits in public offices—but it’s all blended with a laid-back island spirit.

 2. Important to know:

Getting there is easier than you Think!

It might feel like the edge of the world, but getting to Turks and Caicos is surprisingly simple (especially if you’re in the USA).

The main hub, Providenciales International Airport (PLS), has direct flights from Miami (1.5h), New York (3.5h), Atlanta, and even Toronto.

If you’re cruising the Caribbean, Grand Turk is a popular port of call—perfect for a quick introduction to the islands’ charm.

Despite seeing over a million visitors per year, the vibe here is still laid-back, local, and a little wild.

No mega resorts lining every beach.

Just the right amount of untouched paradise 🙂

 3. Hook, Line, and Paradise:

July is Prime Time for Fishing in Turks and Caicos!

Let’s talk fish. Big fish.

July marks peak season in Turks and Caicos for deep-sea legends like blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, and kingfish.

It’s like nature’s own version of a treasure hunt beneath the waves! 🙂

The islands indeed, sit right near the edge of the continental shelf, meaning the drop-offs into deep water happen fast—ideal for big-game action just minutes offshore!

Not into offshore marlin battles? No worries 🙂

The reefs of T&C are alive with snapper, grouper, and jack, while the shallow flats offer that thrilling game of patience and precision with bonefish and tarpon.

It’s not just for pro anglers either—this is a place where beginners can get hooked (pun intended xD) after just one outing.

Why choosing July?

Consistently calm seas, long sunny days, and warm water averaging 28–30°C (82–86°F).

4. Beneath the Surface, Turks and Caicos have

Reefs that Rival Any in the Caribbean!

If you prefer fins over fishing rods, the underwater world here is just as exciting!

Turks and Caicos is home to the third-largest barrier reef system on Earth, stretching over 340 miles.

Think coral gardens teeming with life—parrotfish, angelfish, sea turtles, eagle rays, and the occasional nurse shark just cruising by.

Snorkelers can explore right from the shore at spots like Smith’s Reef and Bight Reef, while divers can descend into dramatic wall dives at places like North West Point and French Cay, where the seafloor drops to staggering depths.

Even better?

Local conservation efforts have kept these ecosystems in surprisingly good shape!

Organizations like the Turks and Caicos Reef Fund have been instrumental in reef preservation and education, making marine eco-tourism a growing pillar of the islands’ identity.

5. Chartering a Boat to tour and fish around

the islands of Turks and Caicos

is easy and epic!

If you’re going to do Turks and Caicos in summer and looking for the ultimate experience, chartering a boat should be at the top of your list: you’ll get freedom to roam in paradise, an intimate discovery experience and one of the most unforgettable memories of your lives!

One of the best outfits on the islands is Catchin’ Caicos—a local legend when it comes to fishing charters.

Their sleek boats, expert guides, and custom trips make it easy to tailor the day to your vibe—whether you’re chasing trophy marlin offshore or reef fishing with friends.

Fun fact: Their star captain, Roy “The Fish Whisperer”, has a reputation for knowing exactly where the action is. They depart daily from Turtle Cove Marina, and spaces can fill up fast in summer, so it’s worth booking ahead if you’re keen!

Extra Fun fact: Some guests have reeled in 300+ lb marlins on these trips. Not bad for a vacation story, right?

6. Last but not least,

Why July is the best month to Go?

roue saint catherine

Sure, July is technically the Caribbean’s off-season, but here’s the secret: it’s one of the best months to visit Turks and Caicos!

Fewer crowds, lower prices, and the islands are in full bloom—both above and below the waterline.

Yes, it’s warm (expect highs around 31°C / 88°F), but the constant trade winds keep things comfortable.

Plus, you get those jaw-dropping sunsets that paint the ocean in golds and pinks almost every night.

Whether you’re casting lines, free-diving reefs, or just sipping rum punch with sand between your toes, Turks and Caicos in July hits different.

It’s the kind of place that sneaks into your soul—and makes it really hard to leave 🙂
