Budapest for Couples: 7 Memorable Things to Do You will Love!

poster about venice

Budapest is a huge city and one of the most vibrant capitals in Europe: it’s one of those places with plenty of charachter and way of sneaking under your skin

Maybe it’s the way the golden Parliament glows at night mirrored in the still Danube, or maybe it’s the steamy embrace of its famous thermal baths while outside it’s snowing… or maybe all the wild and unusual (to say the least!) experiences on offer! 😉

Last autumn we happen to crossed Budapest with our campervan for the 4th time, and this time we tried to explore the city beyond the usual most common touristic landmarks.

Honestly, it was quite the ride!

In this article, we thought of sharing with you what we believe to be some of the best activities to do with your loved one if you’re in Budapest!

If you and your partner are the kind of couple (like us!) who prefer memories over souvenirs — who love trying things that make you say “Wait… are we really doing this?!” — then Budapest it is going to be your playground!

Let’s dive right! 😀

7 Awesome experiences

to do as a couple in Budapest

1. Feel the adrenaline together,

firing Historical Weapons

at the Churchill Shooting Range

taj mahal was a tomb

Let’s start the Budapest trip with a BANG!

Literally! 😉

Hidden in a discreet basement, the Churchill Shooting Range is an accessible and welcoming polygon, led by British and American veterans.

Here, you and your partner can handle and fire real historical weapons — from classic revolvers to legendary AK-47s and even machine guns (!!!).

The selection of weapons is huge (there are 35 of them to choose from!), you don’t need a license (you’re going to have an assigned officer helping you at all times) and it’s wild fun!

Honestly, as an European who never tried shooting before, I found this experience something exhilarating: holding a piece of history... the weight solid in your hands… the sound echoing around you… and most of all the smell of gunpowder!

It’s unusual…and cool! 🙂

I would say it’s a curious experience seeing your partner shooting with a grin on her face after hitting the target for the first time: scary yet so funny!

We both agreed that, although wildly unexpected as a couple activity in Budapest, visiting the range was a bonding and brilliant experience we can definitely recommend!

The instructors are calm, clear, and reassuring. Safety is priority number one here and everything is handled extremely professionally.

In three words: pure cinematic adrenaline!

Extra info from us: Prices for the experience ranged 50-200Euro depending on time and weapons chosen, better reserve in advance (especially on weekends!), suggested time 1-2 hours

 2. Soak side by side

in one of the most iconic

Thermal Baths in Europe!

After all that adrenaline, it’s time to melt!

Did you know that Budapest is built on more than 100 thermal springs? 🙂

Budapest thermal baths are world-famous and for sure in our Top 10 of best thermal baths in Europe! (want to know the others? Leave us a comment and we might write an article about that too 😉 ).

The most iconic bath in the city is Széchenyi Baths, an impressive facility with characterised by vast yellow neo-baroque buildings and open-air pools steaming under the winter sky.

There are so many pools, inside and outside the buildings that is honestly crazy, it seems to be in a city center during the renaissance, but full of water!

When we visited it was autumn already: the outside temperature was pretty chilly (around 2-3°C) and basically you’ll be just running from one pool to the next (or stay still and take a photo like us, faking that it wasn’t cold ahah).

As the night sets, the warm lights make it even more impressive, and the warm waters make it ideal to heat and soothe every muscle 🙂

We found the whole experience pretty epic: from the changing rooms (very very old-fashioned), to the saunas (also old fashioned!), to the unending series of pools within the building.

Big tip: bring your own bathsuit and flip-flop (they sell them at the entrance too, but are over-priced through the roof! (How I know? I had forgotten mine eheh).

Extra info from us: Prices for the experience range 15-20Euro, we recommend staying at least 3 hours to relax, better in late afternoon so you will see it both with daylight and night lanterns 🙂

3. Get a Drink together

in the Whimsical Chaos

of Szimpla Kert

port of the moon bordeaux

A classic? Maybe…

But no trip to Budapest is complete without stepping inside Szimpla Kert, the city’s most iconic ruin pub! 🙂

This place is pure “organized chaos”!

Let’s start from the basic: it’s a bar.

No matter how weird it looks, and how easily you will forget it, but it’s a bar, keep that in mind! xD

Said that, Szimpla Kert is also maze of mismatched furniture, graffiti-covered walls, fairy lights, and hidden corners filled with strange objects… (bathtubs turned into couches? Check. Old TVs glowing in the ceiling? Got those too!)

You just enter, grab a drink with your partner and simply wander.

It’s a bar (if you remember), where every corner feels like a new secret waiting to be discovered — and half the fun is getting lost together…it’s just so HUMONGOUS!

Szimpla isn’t just a bar: it’s a living piece of Budapest’s soul, where art, nightlife, and creativity collide.

It’s loud, eccentric, and unforgettable — just like the best adventures.

: Go early in the evening to wander and take photos before the party crowd fills in.

Tips from us: Prices are international, pay attention to remove tips every time you drink (unless you want to leave 10-15%) which come pre-set, come before evening so you’ll have time to take good photos without too many people…and “szimply” get lost 😉

4. Sail the Danube Under the City Lights Together

carnival masks in venice

We shot, we bathed, we drank…now let’s get romantic…

Yes, because few things are as effortlessly romantic as seeing Budapest from the water!

The night lights in Budapest are very yellowish, giving the city an “old-european” vibe that brings the mind back in time!

As night falls, the city lights up like a fairytale: the Hungarian Parliament glows golden, the Chain Bridge sparkles, and the Buda Castle shimmers on the hill.

And you? You’re on a boat, gliding along the Danube with your partner, sipping wine as the breeze dances around you! 😉

In fact, in Budapest there are dozens of affordable evening cruises — many under 15€ per person — and some even include drinks or dinner!

It’s touristy? Perhaps this one yes… but it’s also a simple experience, quiet, and breathtaking!

For us, trying the cruise has been one of those moments that we know we will remember years from now, very magical!

Tips from us: Book online and in advance (it’s going to be cheaper and there are more options, we booked through GetYourGuide), dress up good as it can be chill in autumn/winter season, prices range from 15Euro to 200Euro depending on level and service 🙂

5. Team Up to Escape a Budapest Escape Room

Did you know Budapest is the birthplace of escape rooms?

We didn’t know either! 🙂

The world’s very first one opened here in 2011 — and the city still has dozens of mind-blowing, immersive escape games scattered around its center.

Step into a locked room together and race the clock solving puzzles, decoding clues, and unlocking secret doors.

The escape room is part adventure, part brain workout, and part hilarious chaos as you and your partner/friends frantically search under furniture while shouting half-baked theories.

The selection of themes is huge, as they range from Far West, to bank robbery, to asylums, ancient Egypt, spooky basements, catacombs and much much more… and prices are among the best in Europe for this kind of entertainment! 🙂

Extra Tips from us: Not all escape rooms are for two people (you can tackle them in two but they would take too long!), so have a quick look on tripadvisor on the most suggested at the time of your visit (they keep changing too!), reserve at least 2 hours, cost around 20-40Euro per person.

6. Share a Sensory Adventure

with an Invisible Dinner in Total Darkness

Want to completely surprise your senses and your partner?
Try dining in the dark!

That’s an experience so awesome I can barely describe it with words, but I will try!

It’s a restaurant, you enter, and everything is completely dark. Completely! No phones, no lights, no distractions, nothing!

The waiters, are impaired people, so they can move in the space without problems, but not you!

They help you navigate the space, sit and enjoy your dinner as in any other restaurant…thing is, you cannot see it (nor your partner!).

It’s unbelievable how much we rely on our vision… just pouring a glass of wine in the darkness is cumbersome (tip: you need to put your finger in the glass!), let alone cutting a pizza or a steak you don’t see! ;D

It’s disorienting at first… then strangely liberating!

You talk more. You laugh more. You notice little details about each other’s voices and you understand how it is living for people without vision.

When you guess what you’re eating (you’ll be wrong half the time!), you’ll be giggling like kids. Definitely an experience to try!

Extra Tips from us: cost around 40-50Euro/person, reserve at least 2 hours, we won’t tell you what happens when you need to go to the toilet – we don’t want to ruin the experience hihihihi 😉

7. Dance All Night Together at the Legendary Sparty Pool Rave

bordeaux was roman empire

And now, for last, the most outrageously fun thing on this list.

Every weekend, Budapest’s famous Széchenyi Baths (the quiet ones we saw just before!)  transform into a massive open-air pool rave called “Sparty”.

How it goes? Hundreds of people in swimsuits dancing under lasers, soaking in steaming pools, bass booming through the mist.

It’s sweaty, surreal, and absolutely unforgettable.

Funny thing? It’s every damn Saturday evening, from late February until early December (taking a break only during Xmas time and January).

The vibe is incredible: we found ourselves laughing, splashing, and dancing under the stars at 2 a.m. , it was crazy fun, even despite the ton of Hungarian disco music we didn’t really understood ahah 🙂

Extra Tips from us: cost around 50Euro/person, bring swimwear, flip-flops and get a waterproof phone case for taking photos in safety – 9p.m. is a good time to come! 😉

Conclusions 🙂
